Amy Chaplin's Hojicha Latte

Amy Chaplin has long inspired us with her ingredient-driven, whole foods based approach to nourishment. And lately, she’s been reaching for our powdered Hojicha tea from Japan, drawn to its low caffeine content and earthy notes of toasted nuts, caramel and malt. With fall approaching, she shared her new favorite post-lunch ritual of a creamy CAP Hojicha Latte enriched with a touch of ghee for added richness and depth. Sip her warming drink to feel grounded and restored, and welcome fall.

On chilly mornings I love to add a little ghee to this latte. I use a spiced ghee from Goddess Ghee called Autumn Spice which has raw honey in it—it's beyond delicious. Using a homemade or fresh made nut milk is key to the best tasting latte. I make my own weekly with a few dates and a combination of almonds, cashews and coconut. The hints of sweetness go so well with the earthy caramel notes of the hojicha. Also, you can enjoy this after lunch as the caffeine is low.

HOJICHA LATTE

By Amy Chaplin

Serves 1

¾ cup almond milk (homemade with dates)

1 teaspoon CAP Beauty Hojicha powder

Splash boiling water

1 teaspoon ghee or coconut butter, optional

honey to taste, optional

Add almond milk and hojicha to a milk foamer and turn on.

Add ghee, if using, to your favorite mug and add a splash of boiling water; stir to dissolve. Pour in foamed milk and tea mixture and stir. Drink hot.

If you don’t have a milk foamer—warm the milk in a pot on the stove and add to an upright blender along with tea and ghee and blend on high for a minute, make sure to hold top on securely so you don’t get splashed.

Pour into a cup and enjoy. This is also a great method for making two or more lattes.
