Ask the Esthetician: SPRING SKIN

The shift in seasons can often wreak havoc on the skin, especially if you are the sensitive type.  With weather fluctuating from cold to warm to windy and rainy all in the same week, it can be challenging to support your skin. Read on to discover the practices we rely on to reveal your best spring skin ever. From our new Calming Facial to the most nurturing products, here’s what to do.

Reduce common irritants to your sensitive skin.

A good start is to avoid too much heat on your skin. This might include UV rays, saunas and the types of workouts you do. You may also need to minimize fragrance and essential oils in all products, which can sometimes be too much for sensitive skin. If you haven't already, switch to all natural makeup to reduce irritants. The key to healthy skin at all times is making sure it's in balance.

Try healthy skin rituals at home.

Stick to a gentle cleanser at night. I recommend oil cleansing in the evening, and the Pure + EO Free Oil Cleanser from Marie Veronique is as gentle as they come. Apply probiotics topically to your skin to encourage healthy bacteria. Consider tracking the PH balance of your skin. The Pre + Probiotic Mist from Marie Veronique makes the perfect after-cleansing step. Yogurt masks at home are another easy way to use probiotics topically. We recommend using full-fat whole milk organic yogurt with the highest probiotic count you can find, and leaving it on as a mask for 10-20 minutes. You can also use yogurt as a daily cleanser. Green tea applied topically makes another soothing antioxidant-rich ingredient, it’s great for balancing the skin. You can make your own green tea mist or use it as an eye soak on two cotton rounds. For a boost of nutrition, try the CAP High Vibrational Beauty Mask, a blend of Matcha, Tocotrienols, Manuka Honey and Chlorella. I also love the Marie Veronique Vitamins C+E Ferulic Serum for this time of year. It’s rich in antioxidants and protects the skin from the sun’s damaging rays. Other favorite antioxidant serums include the De Mamiel Intense Nurture Antioxidant Elixir, the Kypris Antioxidant Dew and Kahina Brightening Serum.

Use Omega rich oils on your skin.

Omegas are beneficial both internally and topically as they help smooth, hydrate, calm and strengthen the skin. In addition to applying your probiotics, antioxidants and omegas topically, you don't want to neglect your gut. There is a strong connection between our digestion and our skin. Be sure to eat plenty of fermented foods and drinks during the season change to encourage healthy gut bacteria. Take a probiotic supplement like (CAP favorite!) Glow by The Beauty Chef. B vitamins are critical to the skin’s health. Start taking a B complex and load up on B vitamin-rich foods. You already know the last step in a healthy spring skin routine: use sunscreen, always! Find a sunscreen you love and will use daily. We recommend a non-nano zinc-based formula. One of my favorites is the Josh Rosebrook Nutrient Day Cream
Happy spring beauties!
